Council 4 is the local union under AFSCME that represents municipal workers throughout Connecitcut. Early in the 2000s, I was brought on board to develop digital tools to update their website and programmed web based apps to manage contracts and paid time off accrued as a result of those contracts.
Rebranding the council was shortlived, the AFSCME national union imparted their brand guidelines for all councils. This logo though, was one of my favorites. Using the last letter of council as part of the 4 was a solution that I felt positioned the organization for the future.
The website was built using an early CMS that I developed before wordpress was a thing. Perl and PHP, Apache, Linux was the tech stack. But the design work extended to design work for people running for office or promoting local issues. This guy launched his political career back then, and eventually retired as speaker of the CT house in 2021.
